An eTwinning collaborative project „There and Back Again: A Space Tale“ about space exploration, between 1st Gymnasio of Polichni, Thessaloniki, Greece and Primary school Središće, Zagreb, Croatia was a very interesting experience for all participants, students and teachers who participated.

In fact, we all learned a lot about our planet, about life on our planet, about the possibility of life on our closest companion, the Moon. Both, we and our students, are more aware of the challenges that this step, which will definitely happen in the future, will bring.

The project was originally conceived in two phases:

Part 1 - Historical Review

We make a historical flashback, looking for the most important landmarks in space exploration history and we study the reasons for which humans are facing the challenge of trying to make other planets available for sustaining humans.

Part 2 - Moon Camp Challenge

The second part of the project is a preparation for the moon camp challenge competition, run by the European Space Agency (ESA).

Both phases were completed extremely successfully, more than successfully.

Once again, we congratulate the Greek team led by prof. Christiana Matentsidou who won third place at ESA Moon Camp Challenge!!!

Also, for the Croatian team led by prof. Đerek, we wish them more success at a future ESA Moon Camp Challenge competitions.

Of course, real good projects never end just like that, activities done, project finished...no, right? There gonna be a further steps, of course.

The first among them is the 3D printing of both bases, Greek and Croatian. The partner school from Croatia has a 3d printer, the Greek school still does not, so the students of the Središće Elementary School will print both bases. Of course, the goal is to have an actual 3D base model.

Before the printing start, it will be necessary to additionally adjust the models for 3D printing - an activity that the students plan to carry out, together with their teachers, at the beginning of the next school year.

The 3d printing process has already started, here are first print:

We believe that the printed databases will be additionally useful for the various dissemination activities that we plan to carry out. Likewise, adapting the model for 3d printing will be an additional opportunity to learn something about the 3d modeling process itself.

Of course, we plan to continue the successful cooperation, we concluded that the most lacking in the whole project was live contact between students... maybe it's time to upgrade eTwinning to Erasmus+.Anyway, we have a long warm working summer ahead of us.
